As the original part, which is chrome-plated steel, is held on with nuts and screws, the aluminium windscreen top finisher is consistently damaged by the action of the nuts constantly pressing into it. Triumph used a rather better approach on the Spitfire, where the exact same part (624392) is used, but it is tapped to accept countersunk screws from below. Revington TR recommends this part, manufactured in stainless steel (part number 624392SS). Countersunk screws will be needed for attaching the plate, part number SK302041. See below.
