Beta aluminium rear wing, left Hand outside

This left hand rear aluminium Outer Wing is a hand-made wider version of the original TR2-3B rear wing as fitted to the wider track prototype Triumph Beta. These prototypes came about as a result of Triumph's usual problem of lack of cash when an option to use the wider track TR4 style

chassis with a modified TR3A body shell was explored. This prototype programme was called BETA. See below in 'BETA' Background for more information on these prototypes.


Revington TR have reproduced these wing sets and door skins so that customers wanting to use the wider TR4 chassis can do so. The cockpit space is of course the same. The parts are a direct fit onto a standard TR2-3B body shell without the need for inner wing modifications although the sill will need to be brought out at the front edge to line up with the doors and front wings. Whilst not relevant to the rear wings, this is covered in detail under the front wing and door skin part numbers. 

Beta rear wings are much more bulbous than standard TR2-3B wings as they have to accommodate the TR4 rear axle which is 4" wider than the TR2-3B axle. This then means that the standard stone guards will not fit. 
The original car has very large, almost over the top stone guards as can be seen in the photo. If you wish your car to have, or look like it has stone guards there are two options. Have some made locally from thin aluminium then polish and lacquer them to protect the finish or, paint them on in silver. There is an option to cover this area with stick on clear plastic of the type used on the leading edges modern cars to prevent paint chips.  

These aluminium wings are made to special order only for which we will require a substantial deposit and will be subject to a lead time to delivery.

Due to the huge variation in build standard between TR2 and TR3B and many subsequent rebuilds, some time will need to be spent with a reasonable level of expertise required, to ensure a perfect fit. We do not fit the caged nuts along the top edge of the wing. As this is a hand make none-original part it is best that these fasteners are added after the wing has been satisfactorily fitted to the car. 5 nuts and cages are needed, a wing fitting kit of screws and washers etc. is also recommended.

'BETA' Background
There were two development cars code named BETA, one red one black. The black car is owned by Neil Revington. They were used variously in left hand drive and right hand drive form and from time to time sported amongst other things different rear bumper and grill arrangements. These development cars represented a serious attempt by the factory to combine the old TR3A body with the new TR4 chassis at a time when Triumph could not afford the tooling for the TR4 body shells. We believe Triumph had a large quantity of the new TR4 chassis available therefore the Beta idea would have been a logical progression from the TR3A to give the car a much needed refresh in looks and performance. With the benefit of the wider track TR4 chassis, rack and pinion steering, an all synchromesh gearbox, improved seats and the light TR3A body, the car is easier to drive and has significant performance over a standard TR3A or TR4.
When Leyland took over Triumph, the money for the TR4 body shell tooling was immediately available so the Beta project was dropped and the TR4 programme moved ahead once more. The whereabouts of the red Beta is unclear but the black car is currently undergoing restoration at Revington TR.
