Throttle improvement kit, consisting of 3 improved throttle rod assemblies, an overhead cross shaft and choke kit, which can be fitted to all cars fitted with 'CP' series TR5's, TR6's and early PI saloon throttle bodies. This kit offers the additional advantage of being able to accommodate two throttle cables.

There are two basic types of throttle body fitted to Triumph PI cars, we refer to these as CP type with 3 separate throttle rods, and CR where the spindles are linked. We offer a different kit for each.

The TR5-6CP type can be identified by having one balance pipe connecting all three pairs sited outboard of the injectors and each throttle spindle operated by a separate push rod. TR6CR type has 2 balance tubes connecting all three pairs, one sited outboard of the injectors and a second close to the cylinder head with each pair of throttle bodies connected together.

This throttle system, which has double cable operation for additional security, has proved itself a major contributor to smooth running and maintainability of Lucas mechanical petrol injection systems. The kit includes a new overhead cross shaft mounted on sturdy pressed steel supports. This cross shaft, which runs in 3 bearings made from a material superior to the original in as much as it is not affected by heat, grease or U.V. light, is connected to the throttle butterfly spindles by three independent ball jointed rods assemblies. These new rod assemblies have been designed to eliminate inlet butterfly 'flutter' by having spring loaded ball ends and are easily adjusted to greatly improve throttle balance as the kit sits above the throttle bodies rather than below.
Please order an extra cable separately, 149005 (RHD) 149004 (LHD) and a ferrule BHH1059.
An extra pick up point (not provided) will need to be welded to the throttle pedal.

Please note that many TR's have PI saloon car throttle bodies fitted some of which are subtly different to those fitted to TR's. We can supply alternative parts for these throttle bodies if necessary. Also, this kit has been compiled on the assumption that a standard throttle mechanism is being removed. If you have nothing other than the spindles in the throttle bodies, you will need a few extra components listed here which you can add to your order from the 'related products' list below.
